 Use of Rice Water To Get Clear Glass Skin and Healthy Hair

Rice water is an aged old, hidden beauty ingredient that has been used by many Asian women. Including Rice water in skincare regime minimize pores, gives brighter complexion, tightens the skin, and smoothens the rough texture of our skin. If rice water can be used as after rinsing for hair it gives long and strong, shiny hair. The Koreans use rice water to get glass-like clear skin. The ancient Chinese village, Huangluo is actually named as a “long hair village” as the women of that region use rice water in their beauty care. Most of the women in this area have more than 1.4 meters of long, grey -less, shiny, strong hair, the only secret is RICE WATER. 


Rice water can be used in 3 ways

  • Soaked Rice Water 
  • Boiled Rice Water
  • Fermented Rice Water  

Soaked Rice Water 

soak 2 cups of white rice and wash thoroughly, to clean any dust or residue present in it. Add 5 cups of water. Let it soak for 24 hrs. Stir the water, pressing the rice, strain it through a sieve. Keep in a glass jar and store in a cool dry place or refrigerate it. 

Boiled Rice Water

This process is the same as soaking. Only cook the rice and the leftover water can be used by diluting with more water. 

Fermented Rice Water  

Soak the rice for 3 to 4 days in a jar, when the water starts to give a sour smell, put it in the refrigerator. Dilute with plain water before using it. 


Rice Water for skin

Rice water is full of amino acids, vitamin B, E, minerals, and antioxidants. It can be applied directly to the skin. 

Spray the rice water or dip a cotton ball and lightly rub it over the face. Use it regularly. It works as a natural toner.

  4. It reduces damage caused by sun exposure and pigmentation. 

Rice Water for Hair

After using shampoo, rinse your hair with normal water. Use the rice water all over your hair from roots to tips and scalp. Keep the water for 10 mins and rinse with normal water. Use it once a week.

  2. Makes hair smooth 
  3. Increases shine 
  4. Makes hair long and strong. 

If you want to use the leftover soaked rice, you can use it in many ways,

Face scrub 

Make a smooth mixture of the rice, mix two spoons of curd, and one spoon of honey. Apply all over the face and rub with wet hands for 2 minutes and wash with cold water. 


It exfoliates the skin by removing dead cells naturally. 

Body scrub

Make a paste of rice powder and add aloe vera gel, milk, and honey. Apply all over the body and rub it with your hand in a circular motion. Wash with cold water and apply moisturizer. 


It firms the skin while exfoliating. 

Though rice water is a natural ingredient and can be used by anyone, no proven side effect is found. But I will recommend talking to your dermatologist if you have any skin-related issues.
